SEWA bill checks in Sharjah don't require a login or a registered account. You can see your current amount due by entering just your account number or consumer number on the SEWA website. From there you can download the bill as a PDF, check previous months, or pay by card — no office visit required.

What is SEWA?

SEWA — the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority — is the government body that handles electricity, water, and piped gas across Sharjah. It was set up in 1995 and now covers over 2 million residents. The official site is sewa.gov.ae.

If you live in Sharjah or Ajman, SEWA is your utility provider. Dubai uses DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority); most other northern emirates fall under FEWA (Federal Electricity and Water Authority).

Checking your SEWA bill without login

No account needed for this. Just:

  1. Go to sewa.gov.ae
  2. Click "Bill" or open Billing Services
  3. Select "Bill Enquiry" or "View Bill"
  4. Enter your account number or consumer number
  5. Click "Next"

Your current bill appears — amount due, due date, and usage breakdown. No username or password.

Checking by consumer number

Your consumer number is printed on any previous SEWA bill, usually in the top-right section. It works the same as an account number for online checks.

  1. Find your consumer number on an old paper bill
  2. Go to sewa.gov.ae → Billing Services → Bill Enquiry
  3. Choose "Consumer Number" in the identifier field
  4. Enter it and click Next

If you can't find either number, call SEWA at 800-500-500 with your Emirates ID. The agent can pull both numbers for you.

Checking with a registered account

Logging in gives you bill history, payment records, and consumption data going back further than the guest method.

  1. Go to sewa.gov.ae and click Login
  2. Enter your username and password, or use UAE Pass for one-tap access
  3. Click "My Bills" from the dashboard
  4. Pick whichever bill you need
  5. Pay or download from there

Checking a previous month's SEWA bill

Without a login you can only see the current outstanding amount. For previous months you need to be signed in:

  1. Log in at sewa.gov.ae
  2. Go to Billing Services → Bill History
  3. Enter your account number and select the month
  4. View or download the PDF

Downloading your SEWA bill PDF (free)

SEWA's PDF downloads cost nothing. Banks, landlords, and government offices accept them for rental agreements, visa applications, and similar purposes.

For the current bill: after viewing your bill online, click "Download PDF" on the results page.

For a previous month: log in first, go to Bill History, choose the month, then download.

SEWA mobile app

The SEWA app handles bill checks, payments, and usage tracking. It's free on both platforms:

Through the app you can check the current bill, download PDFs for the last 12 months, pay by card, track daily electricity and water use, set due date reminders, report outages or meter issues with photos, and find the nearest service centre. It runs in English and Arabic and covers residential and commercial accounts.

Why is my SEWA bill higher than normal?

Summer is the most common reason. AC running continuously between May and September can easily triple electricity use compared to cooler months.

A water leak is the second thing to check. A slow drip in a pipe or a running toilet won't be obvious day-to-day, but it adds up fast. Check taps, toilet flush systems, and under-sink connections before calling it a billing error.

Estimated billing happens when SEWA's meter reader can't access the property. They estimate based on historical usage, and the next actual reading corrects any difference — so you may see a correction charge on the following bill.

Faulty meters are rare. If the above don't explain the spike, ask SEWA to test the meter accuracy. You can request this at any service centre or through the 600-566-665 line.

Still don't agree with the figure? File a billing dispute at a SEWA centre or via the helpline.

Cutting your SEWA bill

The AC is where most of the money goes in Sharjah. Each degree below 24°C adds roughly 6% to cooling costs — so running it at 19°C costs significantly more than 24°C. Devices left on standby (TVs, routers, phone chargers) pull 5 to 10% of total electricity without doing anything useful. Switching to LED bulbs cuts lighting energy by around 75%.

For water, the biggest waste is usually a drip you've stopped noticing. A constantly dripping tap loses about 15 litres a day. Shorter showers help more than most people expect. If your AC produces condensate water outside, it's fine for plants — no reason for it to go down a drain.

SEWA supports net metering for approved solar panel installations. If you own your property, it's worth looking into — excess generation rolls back against future bills.

Registering a new SEWA account — documents needed

For electricity and water connection as a tenant: valid Emirates ID, tenancy contract, and a completed SEWA application form.

As a property owner: Emirates ID, title deed, affection plan, and a trade licence from a SEWA-approved electrical contractor for new connections.

For gas connection, you'll also need a permission letter from building management, an approved gas contractor licence, SEWA-approved gas pipeline drawings, and a building completion certificate.

Documents can be submitted at sewa.gov.ae, through the SEWA app, or at any service centre.

Cancelling your SEWA account when moving out

Cancel your account online before you leave to avoid bills arriving after you've moved:

  • Go to sewa.gov.ae → E-Services → "At Your Services"
  • Select "Move Out (Account Cancellation / Closure)"
  • Enter your account number, Emirates ID, move-out date, and IBAN for the security deposit refund
  • Upload your ownership document or NOC letter
  • Submit

SEWA issues a final bill and refunds the security deposit to your IBAN.
