To ensure maximum road safety, the government mandates vehicle testing and inspection for all vehicles in Dubai. Compliance with this law is crucial to minimize accidents resulting from a vehicle's lack of maintenance, thus resulting in malfunctions. Here's all you need to know about vehicle testing in Dubai.
Vehicle Testing Procedure in Dubai
New vehicles are exempt from annual inspections for the first 3 years. A mandatory roadworthiness test is required after 3 years for the annual registration renewal of the vehicle. Since it’s mandatory and a majority of vehicle require it, the process is simplified by the RTA to make it easy and accessible for all the drivers:
1. Visit a Vehicle Inspection Centre: You can go to an RTA certified testing centre (Tasjeel, Shamil or Tamam) to have your vehicle inspected. Ensure no valuables are left inside your vehicle before leaving the vehicle for testing.
2. Testing Process: Your vehicle will be tested in dedicated testing rooms, with the process viewable on-screen.
3. Test Results: You'll be notified if your car passed the maintenance test. If not, you may be required to make certain amends and appear for the test again.
4. Re-Testing: If your vehicle fails, repairs must be made within 31 days for a re-test.
5. Passing: Upon passing, you'll receive a certificate and new registration card.
Documents Required for Testing
You are required to bring the following documents to the inspection centre:
-
Emirates ID
-

-
